Ab Samstag, 27. November 2021 wird im Matterhorn ski paradise die Sesselbahn Gifthittli mit der Piste 36 Gornergrat öffnen. Dieses Gebiet ist mit dem Riffelberg-Express oder der Gornergrat Bahn erreichbar. Zudem wird die Piste 64 Garten neu befahrbar sein. 
Auf der italienischen Seite werden zur gleichen Zeit die Piste 26 Rocce Nere 1 sowie die beiden Lifte Lago Goillet und Pancheron öffnen.

The weekend or weekly packages include accommodation and other services, with two daily yoga sessions in small groups of up to 10 people. The sessions take place in the hotel's new yoga facility or in the open air, against the backdrop of the Zermatt mountain panorama – with the opportunity to have your picture taken by photographer Fred Vaudroz. The programme also features group hikes and dinners, with additional options on the one-week programme for workshops on improving basic yoga postures or creating an individual training session.

The famous Zermatt Blacknose sheep spend their summers in the mountain pastures. From July to September, they will also be on the Gornergrat. From 1 July 2021, it’s easy to find the animals, as their neck collars are fitted with a GPS tracker. The package is called “Meet the Sheep.” Guests can track the sheep’s signal on www.gornergrat.ch/sheep, follow the route and meet the sheep in the mountains. The animals are accompanied by the shepherdess Deborah, who provides fascinating information about the sheep breed from the Upper Valais from Tuesday to Sunday between 13:30 and 15:00 hrs. Guided walks to the Blacknose sheep with background information take place every Wednesday and Saturday. Saturdays also include feeding the sheep and an aperitif at the Riffelhaus 1853 on Riffelberg.

Musician Werner Erb is offering new alphorn workshops in the tennis hall of the Alex Hotel in Zermatt from summer 2021.The 1.5-hour courses are aimed at anyone who wants check out this iconic traditional Swiss instrument up close and have a go at playing it. The workshops take place from July to October on eight Fridays and Saturdays. As well as alphorns, wurzelhorns and Büchel (a related instrument resembling a trumpet) are also available to try. With replaceable mouthpieces and disinfectant sprays, all hygiene aspects are covered too.

As part of its 2021 summer and autumn campaign "In the footsteps of Lucy Walker", the Zermatt – Matterhorn destination is launching a new cultural initiative. A series of information points will provide historical and cultural information about Lucy Walker via the Matterhorn app in a multimedia format. They will focus on information about famous female mountaineers and historical issues around the role of women in mountain villages, with details of legends and customs related to local women. By launching the infopoints throughout the village in July, Zermatt Tourism is creating a service that can be used 365 days a year, regardless of the availability of village guides.

The Zermatt region has more historic buildings than almost any other. The “Alts Zermatt” association hopes to draw attention to these cultural treasures by linking them on a five-stage cultural trail. The first stage from Zermatt to Zmutt has already been open for almost two years. On 19 June 2021, the second stage will be opened - “Zmutt, oldest hamlet in Switzerland”. The name reveals the location for the new route, comprising 14 stopping points and a total of 13 historic houses - the oldest of which dates back to the 13th century. Information boards provide fascinating facts about the history and cultural background of the buildings and the hamlet. This stage also includes an exhibition in a barn. The project is supported by the Zermatt municipality, the Zermatt Civic Community’s cultural and social foundation, the Cantonal Department of Monument Preservation and Zermatt Tourism.

The hut wardens of the Ze Seewjinu Mountain Lodge and Monte Rosa Hut are now offering the four-day “Monte Rosa Trek” – a circular hike in the Matter Valley on several high-altitude trails, past beautiful mountain lakes and across the imposing Gorner Glacier. The trek can be booked for stays from the middle of July for CHF 298 and includes three nights with half-board and herbal tea, plus crampons for the glacier crossing to the Monte Rosa Hut. A mountain guide can also be booked. Guests can look forward to stunning panoramic views and enjoying the beauty of nature as well as fascinating stories from the experienced hut wardens, who are also avid mountain climbers.

On Saturday 5 December 2020, the ski facilities in Rothorn and Gornergrat will open, in addition to the cable cars in the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise that are already open. Pistes 6, 7, 11, 19, 29 and 36 will be accessible, expanding the ski area to 62 kilometres of pistes. Due to cantonal COVID-19 measures, restaurants remain closed until 13 December 2020, but six mountain restaurants are offering a takeaway service during this period.

Outdoor experience providers Zermatters have responded to changing visitor requirements and created some new, innovative products. These include an avalanche course – training comprises two modules delivered over three days, resulting in the Swiss Mountain Training I and II certificates. The new products also include guided cross-country skiing, carving lessons on the pistes and ski tour taster courses for anyone who has not done a ski tour before. A fixed weekly programme enables individuals to take part in group courses.

The Stoked Kids Club is now located in Schweigmatten, right outside Restaurant Alm. It's a child-friendly area for the snow sports school, enabling them to help children make rapid progress on a safe, easily accessible site using a conveyor belt as well as the latest learning and teaching aids. Parents can watch their children from the road or from the restaurant terrace. It’s only a ten-minute gondola ride from the Matterhorn glacier paradise valley station to the children’s area. All Stoked children's groups will continue to meet at 08:50 hrs at the valley station.

From 19 December 2019, for the first time it will be possible to toboggan down the Alps’ highest toboggan run - from Rotenboden to Riffelberg - on a Snooc. The Snooc is the latest generation of toboggan, where you sit on one ski. The product has a lightweight construction and is easy to use. The ski on the snow ensures a good grip and the seat guarantees a comfortable position. Take the Gornergrat railway from Zermatt to Rotenboden, where the thrilling 1.5 km descent to Rifffelberg starts. Snoocs can be hired from Rotenboden station, in the same way as a conventional toboggan.

There is a new treasure hunt through the idyllic mountain village; it is about four kilometres long and takes around one-and-a-half hours. Clues on the treasure map help you to find the answers. There is one last puzzle waiting for you at the end of the adventure to help you find the treasure. Cost: CHF 5 for each treasure hunt and family. There will be a new photo scavenger hunt in summer 2019. If you would like to take part, you can register online. You will see ten different images on your smartphone, in the wrong order. During the hike you need to find and sort the objects in the images. There are two routes: one goes along the Matterhorn Trail from Schwarzsee to Zermatt, the other goes from Sunnegga via Findeln to Zermatt. If you succeed in putting the images into the correct order, you will receive a winner’s certificate and automatically be entered into the main prize draw.

Eight new bike trails

The biking paradise of Zermatt has lots of news to announce, including eight new bike trails to add to the existing thirteen, some of which have also been changed slightly. This means bikers can now indulge their cycling passion on 220 km of trails, which have new signposts at the trail intersections (e.g. Riffelalp).  From summer 2019, the 21 bike trails will be divided into the following three categories: Flow trails (2), Enduro routes (6) and tour routes (13). The difference is that flow trails and Enduro routes go mainly downhill, unlike tour routes. Enduro routes are also natural, whereas flow trails are man-made.

In summer 2019, Zermatt – Matterhorn will offer visitors a second treasure hunt in the village. This is aimed at families with children over 5 years old. A treasure map will lead children to eight stations where they answer questions. An example of one of the questions: "You are currently standing on a bridge. What is it made of?" The answers will give children a code that they can use to open the lock on the treasure chest in the tourism office. The route is 6 km long and takes approx. 2 hours. The other treasure hunt in the destination ("Wolli’s Treasure Hunt") will continue.

New bike trail in Täsch

From summer 2019, Täsch will have a new bike trail. The newly marked trail starts from the village of Täsch and leads along the banks of the Matter Vispa around the Schalisee. The Schalisee is the perfect place to relax; guests can cool off in the lake or enjoy a refreshing drink from the snack bar. The route back takes you through the old village centre of Täsch where you can see typical Valais barns and granges. Length: 4.3 km, ascent and descent: 48 m.

Widening of Kirchbrücke

The Kirchbrücke is the perfect place from which to take a photo of the Matterhorn. This viewing point is now being widened to make it easier for guests and traffic to accommodate each other. A lift will also be installed in addition to the stairs. The new, wider bridge is scheduled to open on 7 September 2019. Due to the construction work, the photo point will not be accessible during summer 2019. There are alternative viewing points on the community centre terrace, on Riedweg and at Zen Stecken.

In December 2018, Zermatt Tourismus and Zermatt Bergbahnen AG launched the Matterhorn app, with a wide range of features. These include a news feed, webcams, an events calendar, a live piste map, weather info and a ticket shop with a 5% discount on all tickets for guests. There is also a map with a filter function showing the closest restaurants, shops and other facilities. Other functions such as online restaurant reservations in the destination are being planned.

Four Matterhorn sections in one day

Record on the Matterhorn: Zermatter Andreas Steindl and Italian Francois Cazzanelli succeeded in climbing all four ridges of the Matterhorn in 16 hours and 4 minutes. They were the first to do this since Hans Kammerlander (ITA) and Diego Wellig (CH), who achieved the same feat in 1992 in 23.5 hours.
