Karl Wild's hotel guide, published annually in the Sonntagszeitung newspaper, ranks the 75 best winter hotels in Switzerland. Eleven of them are in Zermatt. Here are the details, including last year's ranking:

A special mention goes to the Backstage Hotel Vernissage and the Bellerive, which each climbed five places. Hotel Schweizerhof is also a new hotel to feature in the top winter hotels’ ranking.
How are the hotels assessed?
Karl Wild and his team, comprising more than a dozen hotelry and tourism experts, plus experienced travellers, visited all 75 hotels. The resulting ratings are separated into categories for three-, four- and five-star hotels. To ensure a level playing field, only hotels with at least twelve bedrooms and their own restaurant were included.
