GaultMillau 2023: sommelier of the year from Zermatt

The GaultMillau Guide 2023 showcases the 860 best restaurants in Switzerland – and  Zermatt is represented with 21 restaurants.

Sommelier of the Year

The “Sommelier of the Year”, awarded 16 points, is Peter Zimmermann from the Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni in the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof. With in-depth knowledge of Zermatt, the “Zermatterhof” and the best Valais vintners – you can rely on his wine recommendations. Guests who order Zimmermann’s “Wine Pairing” are promised a wonderful, surprising evening. The sommelier, who hails from Germany, is part of the “Zermatterhof” success story.

The best restaurants in the canton of Valais

Two restaurants in Zermatt can count themselves among the best in the canton: the After Seven in the Backstage Hotel, managed by Florian Neubauer and Patrik Simon, is recognised alongside the Ristorante Capri in the Mont Cervin Palace, managed by Salvatore Elefante and Giuseppe Parisi. Both restaurants scored an outstanding 17 points.

New in the guide

Another restaurant from Zermatt has made it into the GaultMillau Guide for the first time: the Stafelalp, under the management of Oliver Milson, can now boast 13 points.

In total, GaultMillau has awarded 298 points in Zermatt. 21 restaurants have met the threshold to display their GaultMillau points.
