Zermatt – Matterhorn is certified as a Family Destination

The Zermatt – Matterhorn destination has been awarded the "Family Destination" quality label by the Swiss Tourism Federation since 2013. After a comprehensive audit and on-site checks, the Federation awarded the label to the destination for the next three years, from 2019 to 2021.

Criteria fulfilled

The label is awarded to holiday resorts and destinations that have designed their packages and services around the needs of children and adults travelling with them. In order to receive this label, a destination has to fulfil a wide range of criteria including transport, infrastructure, summer and winter packages, restaurants and accommodation. The label not only shows that the tourism destination is focused on providing family-friendly services, but also fifty partner organisations in Zermatt, including restaurants, accommodation providers and activity companies.

High praise for Wolli

The Swiss Tourism Federation made particular mention of Wolli the mascot and the Wolli Card: "The destination consistently uses "Wolli", their highly popular mascot, to enable visitors to identify family-friendly events and activities and the Wolli Card is an excellent members’ card for younger guests."

Wolli Card for children under 9 years old

About a year ago, Zermatt – Matterhorn launched a campaign to attract more families and introduced the Wolli Card. Using the card, children under the age of nine receive free accommodation, travel free on all cable cars and also receive further benefits such as free bike courses, ski equipment hire, children's menus, train travel and museum entry. "Children are our VIPs. After all, they are the guests of the future," says Zermatt Tourismus President, Daniel Luggen. Zermatt will therefore continue to focus on their family-friendly outlook.
