Trail running in Zermatt

Trail running at the foot of the Matterhorn is always an incredible experience. In spring, there’s still snow on the ground; in summer, some of the trails are at 3,400 metres, making them a great place to cool down; and in autumn, the golden forests are stunning.

The beautiful Alpine world around Zermatt - with 38 four-thousanders and 400 km of trails - is a real nature’s paradise for trail running fans. There are trails for all abilities, ranging from 1,400 metres to 3,400 metres above sea level. It’s the ideal environment for athletes and mountain climbers to complete their altitude training. Those who run for fun can enjoy discovering different trails and incredible views. And even runners who are venturing off-road for the first time can use the cable cars to reach the high-altitude trails.

There are many Alpine huts providing refreshments and the hut teams are on hand to provide help and suggestions.
